Castle Making and Stuff.

Hi, welcome to my post for this blog. In this project, we had to do any type of castle. Last year I did this flying castle concept for a reading week so this time I decided to stick closer to the ground and with more detail.

Problems n' stuff I had to deal with.

Numerous challenges really, being that I did not do what I said and make landscapes/concepts on rhino so I wouldn't have to do perspective. Therefore I was a bit hesitant to even start the project as I forgot some of the commands. But thank god for muscle memory and constant repetitive usage of the commands that I was able to (what I think is) my previous knowledge level of Rhino.

As I had this other file from last year I just stole its outer arches and used it for this one. Already when comparing this and the one I made recently I think there's a bit more detail.

here's the link to my old post I got this castle from here

I had to get the overall feel and shape of what I wanted first so I wanted maybe of a church feel. This was more heavily inspired by Mont Saint Michel in a few places however I added some fantasy elements and got rid of things like the flying buttresses. I kinda regret that now because I want to make them now.

(Extra info: One thing I was considering was the different layerings of church design seen in mont saint Michel as its completion took a hefty period of time, new portions were added that were from another period ie. the flying buttresses)

To grant me some time for this project I did what I've done before and made a composition of objects in a certain manner that does not require the entire thing to be done only a section. Aka I just did the front side so the back does not look like anything.

In one of the example castle projects, I saw some columns so I made some columns on the wall. There was somewhat of a problem with doing the split then split again technique shown above so I just redid it again till it worked. I'm guessing it was because it was not aligned properly as I was working very very small and despite the snaps I had they did not help.

Lighting wise I played around with the sun feature putting the castle roughly around the same area as Mont Saint Michel. Using mostly noon and around fall time sun for the lighting effects.

In conclusion, I guess I didn't forget as much Rhino as I thought and I panic a lot, and I'm tired.
